Joyce Meyer fits the Bible's definition of a heretic for several reasons having to do with her ideas on the Person and work of Christ Christology and Soteriology.
She teaches the gullible that "the Christ" descended upon Jesus at His baptism and "the
Christ" left Him on the cross, that is, He ceased to be God.
In her words: "He [Jesus] could have helped himself up until the point where he said, "I commend
my spirit into your hands, at that point he couldn’t do nothing (sic) for
himself anymore. He had become sin. He was no longer the Son of God. He was sin."
She
goes on to declare that Christ didn't pay for our sins on the cross but
went to hell for three days and three nights to do so there while the devil
and the demons held a party and jumped up and down on Him! Then she says, at the Resurrection Jesus
was born again and became the first born-again man.
Not stopping there,
she says that she gets her messages from God which would mean that God is contradicting His Word. Millions of sheep aren't discerning the howl of this wolf in sheep's clothing.
Not to be outdone, she contradicts I Cor. 15: 3-4 by saying, "You're not saved if you don't believe that Jesus went to hell." That's nowhere stated in Paul's declaration of the good news.
Going further off the reservation of orthodoxy, she brags, "“I am not poor. I am not miserable, and I am not a sinner. . That is what I were (sic.) , and if I still
was, then Jesus died in vain. I’m going to tell you something, folks. I
didn’t stop sinning until I finally got it through my thick head. I
wasn’t a sinner anymore. And the religious world thinks that’s heresy,
and they want to hang you for it. But the Bible says that I am righteous
and I can’t be righteous and be a sinner at the same time.” She hasn't read and understood I John 1:8 or Is. 53:6 et al. nor does she have an inkling of understanding the vital doctrine of justification.
Her brag-a-mony of her achievement of impeccability fits with her outlandish claim that through faith in Christ, Christians are given back their little god status, and by growing in faith (becoming more and more aware of who they are as
little gods) they can use the "force of faith" to get all that they
desire from this life.
Therefore, check the shelves of your church library. Are any of her 80+ books
lurking there? If so, you need to demand their removal to the incinerator yesterday. This is
non-negotiable that cannot wait. Contact the elders of your church to do their God-given duty to protect the flock from heretics.
Before you go, read and heed Titus 1: "For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception . . . They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. . . rebuke them sharply . . . their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good."
Then the elders, after the removal of whatever the wolf is howling in print from the church library, should explain to the congregation the biblical basis for what they've done.
It would then be a teaching moment.
