The lady stood at the microphone. Before her, seated on the platform, were three celebrities of Calvinism. The three were there to answer questions from the audience and that's why the woman stood at the microphone. She's going to ask the question of the ages.
She stands ramrod straight, looks at the distinguished, well dressed men on the platform and asks, "Is God's grace and mercy available to all?" That's it. A simple question. The answer?
The Bible answers the question, as we see in:
Psalm 149:9: "The Lord is good to all,
And His mercies are over all His works."
Titus 2:11: "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people,"
Romans 11:32: "For God has shut up all in disobedience, so that He may show mercy to all."
John 12:32: "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to Myself.”
It was a simple question. The three texts give a simple answer, so simple, a child can understand it.
The attention switches to the three Calvinists on the stage and one of them, R. C. Sproul, begins to answer. What a great opportunity to cite the three texts above and tell her and the audience, "Absolutely."
His answer is devastating as he begins by using a term found nowhere in the Bible, "You're talking about regenerative grace."
She says, "Yes."
In order answer, he has to add a word to "grace" that no author of the Scriptures uses. He has to do this to make his answer fit with his philosophical system. (This is frustrating; does the lady and does the audience see what he's done?)
He answers, "No. The grace of God is not available to all. God determines who will receive regenerative grace." According to Sproul, God decided that in eternity past without the person ever having been born.
What has happened is that he people and the lady will walk out of the auditorium having been given false information that damages the character of God who arbitrarily gives the "regenerative grace" to only a tiny fraction of the 8 billion people on the planet today, arbitrarily withholding it from all the rest.
One would hope that somehow, in some way, she and they would read and understand those verses and reject what their celebrates told them and then that entire philosophical system on which their system is based will collapse.
